Can It Be? Are We FINALLY Getting Our Needed Locations???

It’s been a long, like really long, journey for this project.  Much of the struggle throughout has been with getting adequate events / venues / locations for the end scenes in the film.  For these scenes the script calls for an arena type setting, with a huge atmosphere and crowd of thousands.  When you are making a 100% independent production like Fight 4 Your Life, this is no easy feat.  Hell, it’s no easy feat even if you have tons of investors backing you.

The time it takes to organize your cast and crew alone is absurd.  Then add the actual preparation for the equipment, the shots, the acting, the sound, the costumes, the makeup, etc., and the multitudes of time spent dealing with your location / venue contact….or, in our case, the time spent waiting patiently for an update from your contact…..and you quickly come to a point where months have passed for the process.  It can be frustrating, even more so when you are getting regular “Nos” more than you are getting “Yeses”.

It took us over a year to find a proper venue and willing promoter for our shoot at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA last year (June of 2015).  And we got approval very last minute, like 2 days before.  Much of our cast couldn’t make it because of that, unfortunately.  So, after this shoot we spent months trying to get even a call back from Oracle to let us back in for vital additional shots.

Guess how many times the Oracle staff actually called us back?  We’ll just say it was less than one.  Yep, if it hadn’t been for our awesome friends at Roc Nation Sports, we never would have even seen the inside of Oracle Arena.

Oracle Arena, Roc Nation's Ward vs Smith Event. June 2015

Oracle Arena, Roc Nation’s Ward vs Smith Event. June 2015

It’s been eight long months since that Oracle shoot.  Despite our best efforts, we’ve had no luck in finding a worthy venue that approves us getting our vital shots needed….until now.

You see, we’re not complaining about the process we’ve went through.  Not to seem like we are psychics or know-it-alls, but we anticipated this.  And that’s why our patience has been possible.  But even our patience has its limitations.  After all, it’s time to get this thing done!!!

As fate would have it, Roc Nation is putting on another gigantic boxing event at Oracle Arena on March 26, 2016.  We have been in contact with our friends again and things are looking good for us getting back in Oracle, finally, for this event.  It seems we are for sure getting in in some capacity.  How many people we’ll be able to get in and how much we’ll be able to do is still up in the air, as we have to play the waiting game.  But things are looking good!

Another venue we’ve been pushing to get into is Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, CA.  We actually shot some stuff previously in one of the exterior parking lots at Sleep Train.  Having done that we already built a relationship with the staff to some degree.  And, so, we then approached them with the need to shoot interior shots in the actual arena.

As it sits, we are in the process of getting approval by the NBA to get into Sleep Train, which is home to the Sacramento Kings.  A hefty fee is likely going to be required before we step a foot in that place.  But, with any luck, we’ll soon have this location to get our final shots for the spectacular ending scenes in the film!

After years of trying, it seems we might very well end up having two large arenas to complete Fight 4 Your Life.  It’s quite amazing.

Please come out and support F4YL at the March 26th Roc Nation event at Oracle.  Local legend Andre Ward is fighting in the main event!  It’s sure to be a banger!  Last time celebrities such as Michael B. Jordan, Steph Curry and Sway were in attendance.  You can always watch on HBO also!  We’re telling you, this is big!!!

B with Sway......nice cool face B. Hahaha!!!!

B with Sway……nice cool face B. Hahaha!!!!

And we very well may need lots of extras for the future shoots at Sleep Train, all depending on how we organize our shoots with the arena.  More info on that to come as we solidify things.  But do note it can be a great way for you to not only support, but be a part of the project!  For more info contact us HERE.

Thanks for the continued love everyone!  Keep up the fight!

Fight 4 Your Life has always been about bringing the community together and making a movie for the love of the art and to help Nor Cal filmmaking grow.  If we can make proceeds in the long run, surely one studios will give back to all those persons involved in the process.  But our main goal is to give back by getting this project finished.  And we’re 85% done!  So, know that you’d not only be joining a lot of really cool people on a really cool project, but that you’d be coming on board a project that is actually going to see the light of day.  Awesome!

Now, to the open roles….

Athletic, Well Built / Manly Attractive Male Boxer:

  • Age 25-35.  Must be able to play character’s age of between 27-30 in present day AND early 20’s for backflash scene.
  • Between 5’8″-6′  Preferred
  • Between 175-185 lbs
  • Caucasian, due to younger (teenage) version of character also being Caucasian.
  • Muscular and lean needed.  You must be in good physical shape.  Think a boxer’s build.
  • Boxing experience desired.  Martial arts experience or extremely athletic okay.  There will be training.
  • Must be open to physically demanding role.  Please no wimps!  🙂   Challenge yourself!
  • Attractive in the more manly sense.  Not pretty boy attractive.
  • Shirtless scenes required (for boxing).
  • Lead speaking role.
  • Athletic actors preferred, as role requires extensive acting.  However, if you are an athlete/boxer and have the right attitude and can take direction you have a shot!  We need both a good acting AND physical performance.
  • This character is in 3 scenes.

Short Character Description:

This character is arrogant and outgoing.  Yes, he is a bit of an ass.  The kind of guy people love to hate.  But he is a legit boxer and can back up his big mouth.  Actor should be athletic with a good build and not shy.  Boxing experience is a huge plus.  He should be somewhat attractive also since this character is a big shot and has always been an alpha male himself.   Actor should be able to play an early 20’s version of this character for a backflash scene, as well as the present day version of this character, which is mid to later 20’s, perhaps 30ish.  Shirtless scenes are required, as he’ll be in a boxing match, of course.   Challenging role for a serious actor.

Athletic Male / Boxer Type:

  • Age 29-39
  • Athletic and of good physical stature needed.
  • Boxing experience a huge plus.
  • Athletic actors preferred, as role is more acting than boxing.
  • Open to all racial backgrounds and sizes.  Should be in shape though.
  • Minor speaking role.
  • This character is in 4 scenes.

Short Character Description:

This character is a good guy.  Very supportive and a team player.  He doesn’t get pushed around.  He’s tough.  He comes from the hard part of town but hasn’t let that make him do wrong or act wrong.  He can dish it out if needed.  He respects and loves the sport of boxing.  He might not be the best boxer, but he’s an extremely hard worker.  Great guy to train with and have in your corner.

Prime Female Role – Reporter Type:

  • Between 27-33
  • Can play witty and strong minded woman.
  • Attractive and keeps self in decent shape. Not looking for a super model. Natural beauty. Cute. Someone that is on the go.
  • Reporting experience a plus.
  • Open to all racial backgrounds and sizes. But, again, must be in decent shape. Think of a field reporter and how they tend to be.
  • Speaking role with significant screen time.
  • This character is in 3 scenes.

Character Description:

This character is the classic reporter, tenacious and daring to get the story. She’s not shy and can be very sly. She’s out for the best stories to prove herself. She won’t back down and some even view her as a pest. She really just driven, always thinking. Very bright.

She’s in love with her work. And she has passion for the truth. She holds herself to a high standard and think of herself as honorable. She fights for what’s right. A person of the law and human rights. And she’s a sucker for a sad story or a story of struggle. She considers herself a story teller and believes everyone has the right to know, which makes her perfect for her profession.

The problem is her conscience and good spirit often gets the better of her, not allowing her to do a lot of things her colleagues will to move up on the ladder. Her sense of righteousness annoys her colleagues and tends to make her the laughing stock as they often mock her behind her back.

Most know not to mock her to her face, however, because she’s quick to defend herself and will often go overboard, not letting it go, when doing so. She’s smart and quick to pick up on things, especially through speech. So, you’re not going to pull one over on her.

She’s always calculating and thinking. And she has some street smarts to her as well. The perfect reporter’s attributes aside from the inability to give in to the dark side of news and getting ahead. But her persistence, neverending tenacity and pursuit for the ultimate story keeps her going. She’s determined to find her success, but only through being good at her work, not by selling out.

Knowledge is power to her. And getting knowledge to the people is the most important thing to her. It’s her primary directive. But she has a heart….and she has an admirer.

Prime Male Role – Athletic:

  • Between 25-30
  • This character has a younger version and actor must match up. Younger version is played by an actor of mixed heritage, being Italian and African-American. Very light brown skin. Please do not reply for this role unless you fit near to this.
  • Athletic male, but not a physical role.
  • Must be able to be outgoing on camera. Cannot be reserved.
  • Speaking role with significant screen time.
  • This character is in 3 scenes.

Character Description:

Obnoxious loud mouth that will always back his boy. He’s the guy everyone hates, but since he hangs with the big shot people leave him alone. He is loyal though, having always stuck with his friend through thick and thin. But it’s easy to stick with someone when they’re always winning. His loyalty has developed off of opportunity. But he does cherish his friendship and looks for his friend’s praise.

He’s not a weakling though. Has some boxing skill himself. But boxing is more of a game to him, not a career. He does it because his friend does it. He’s a follower. And he’s invested a lot of time into following, having followed his friend’s coat tails since they were kids.

He’ll be the first to speak up for his friend and the first to put others down in his friend’s wake. He is witty, but not that intelligent. Good with words, but it’s the way that he delivers them that make his verbal rants and attacks successful. He’s a showman, an announcer. He’s the dedicated hype man everyone wishes they had.

He’s willing to look like a complete jerk to be on the winning team and back his boy. It’s not even that he’s not confident or insecure in himself. He just doesn’t care. He knows where his loyalties lay and doesn’t care how he looks to others or about other people’s feelings. Shallow.

He and his friend are perfect fits for each other because they are both dicks.

Actor must be able to play later and early 20’s.

Male OR Female Role – Enthusiastic and Emotional:

  • Between 35-55
  • Needs to be outgoing on camera.  Not shy.
  • Can be a bit comedic.
  • Minor non-speaking role.  Good screen time though.
  • Character is in 1 scene.

Short Character Description:

Tallies the points during a competition.  Actor does not have to be athletic.  Character is extremely passionate about the competition he is helping score, and admires greatly supreme performance; like it’s a show, a feat of art.  Gets emotional.  Think of a passionate ballroom dancing judge or something.

Boxing Referee:
  • Anywhere between 35-60
  • Should have boxing experience, or, be highly motivated to learn the rules.
  • Small role but very important.
  • Must have commanding presence and be able to take control on camera, as a real ref would.
  • Should not be afraid to get physical.
  • Should be in good physical condition.  Excellent shape not needed, just fit to be a ref.  There’s a difference.
  • Minor speaking role.
  • Character is in 2 scenes.

Short Character Description:
Commanding presence as any good referee has.  Doesn’t take crap from any boxer, even the best ones.  Can be physical if need be.  Great role for a real ref who can take direction on camera.
Minor Roles – Non-Speaking:
  • 3 Boxing Officials – Open to men and women 30 – 65.  Actors preferred but no acting experience necessary.
  • 2 Ring Girls – Actresses must be attractive and in good physical shape and be open to wearing a bathing suit on camera in front of a large crowd.  Great exposure for models, actresses or women wanting to show the world what their hard work at the gym has got them.  😉
  • 8 – 15 Reporters – Open to men and women ages 21 – 65.  No acting experience necessary.
  • 8 – 15 Photographers – Open to men and women ages 21 – 60.  No acting experience necessary.  Great for real photographers that want to practice their picture taking skills while being on camera.  We can arrange for any photos taken to be used on F4YLMovie.com and maybe even in the film.  Of course, we can arrange for you to be able to use the photos in some way too.  We just have to work together so important parts of the film aren’t revealed.  Let’s make it beneficial for both parties.
  • 2 – 3 Videographers – Open to men and women ages 21 – 60.  No acting experience necessary.  Great for real videographers and cameramen that want to help us get some extra footage and be on camera themselves!  We’ll do our best to make it beneficial for both parties.
Background Actors/EXTRAS, EXTRAS, EXTRAS Needed for:
  • Boxing Event Scene
  • Boxing Gym Scene
  • Bar Scene

Description:

We need as many background actors/extras as we can get.  Men, women, teen boys and girls, all ages.  No acting experience needed.  Come join the fight and help us make these scenes as realistic as possible!  All extras will get a gift for their time and efforts!

River City Saloon

Our friends at River City Saloon made our shoots there easy as pie.  Very accommodating to filmmakers, the staff at this fine establishment in Old Town Sacramento are friendly and understanding to the time it takes to make a movie.  We thank River City Saloon for its cooperation and support.  And an extra thanks goes out to Hollie for dealing with us!  Fight 4 Your Life and one studios loves you!

River City Saloon info:

River City Saloon  is located in  the historic Old Sacramento district. It has had a long history in Old Sacramento. It originally was an early framed wood building that was replaced  with brick in 1857. In 1861, River City Saloon was one of the  original houses of ill repute owned by Johanna Heigle. Shortly after that it became Parker French’s Saloon. It was owned by Mr. Parker French who was a colorful Old Sacramento Newspaper man that wanted a fun place to go after work. This Old Sacramento saloon was also known as an unruly place at times. Many stories of people being Shanghaied and taken out to sea have been heard.  During prohibition, it would be continually raided as it insisted it was only serving Sarsaparilla and alcohol for medicinal reasons.

In the 1960s, Old Sacramento and the saloon had fallen to hard times as the area had become the worst skid row west of the Mississippi. In 2007, the saloon  was remodeled to its original  grandeur and renamed the River City Saloon. The bar is a 1905 Triple Arch Brunswick just like the one that stood here in 1871. It was originally in a New York hotel that was demolished and then salvaged by Red Barron Antiques in Atlanta. The beautiful flocked wall paper is almost dead on for what donned the original place and the sawdust and peanut shells represent what was originally used in many saloons to keep the dirt down as many saloons had dirt floors.

Besides the great deli style sandwiches that River City Saloon offers, we also feature Old West Sarsaparilla brewed exclusively for us by River City Brewing Company also located in Old Sacramento. In-fact you can grab the kids and belly up to the bar and get one for just 25 cents! While your there ask for a basket of peanuts and don’t be afraid to throw the shells on the floor.

The River City Saloon in Old Sacramento also features Free wi-fi, a family priced menu of appetizers and award wining sandwiches, great video music, sports,  live music, karaoke and so much more.

So when your in Old Sacramento, don’t miss Sacramento’s last old west saloon,The River City Saloon.  We Serve  food all the way till close and hope to see you soon.

Late Night in Old Sacramento at The River City Saloon?
Open 7 days a week and 21 and over after 9pm with Free Pool on Wednesday nights, Live Music on Thursdays, and Karaoke on Friday and Saturday Nights.

Andrew Florio – assistant camera / grip

Andrew works as a cinematographer, camera operator, gaffer, grip…you name it, he likely does it.  Being a Jack-of-All trades type of production person is kind of needed nowadays as you scrap and scrape your way into the industry.  It can open more doors.

Many of the skills Andrew has gained come from his days at UC Davis, where he was an executive producer at AGTV, which is Davis’ campus TV news organization run by students.  Fight 4 Your Life creator Bryan Bachar also served on AGTV back in his hay day at UC Davis.  This was just one of the many reasons why Andrew is a perfect fit for this project.  Not only is he a fellow alum, but his skills and passion for filmmaking are evident.

The one studios crew has had a blast having Andrew on board.  Thus far, he’s been a huge help, especially when it came to a really pivotal scene in which green screening was involved.  Andrew’s knowledge of lighting and filming for chroma keying was a tremendous aid to all of our crew that day.

Thank you for all your hard work and for supporting Fight 4 Your Life Andrew!  We look forward to projects to come with you.  Check him out on IMDb and Facebook!

Brandon Kyle – fight choreographer / location scout

Having pursued entertainment and martial arts throughout his life, Brandon Kyle, born Brandon Kyle Umipeg, strives for high intensity and a well balanced life.  When he isn’t rolling around on a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu mat or practicing his MMA skill set, he is likely spending time with his lovely wife Meryll and French Bulldog/self proclaimed son Tums.

This Vallejo, CA native also loves taking drives in his classic Mustang, his cherished car.  But cars aren’t his only ride of choice.  Put Brandon on a snowboard and he feels right at home!

An avid San Francisco 49ers fan, Brandon loves the thrill of sport.  As mentioned, he practices mixed martial arts and has competed in the ring many times, even having earned a championship belt.  His skills and drive have been of great benefit to Fight 4 Your Life.

When Brandon met Fight 4 Your Life director Bryan Bachar through online contact they quickly set up a meeting to discuss bringing  Brandon on board.  What was suppose to be a common meeting turned into a two hour talk fest.

“Brandon and I just clicked.  It was obvious we are on the same wave length and when you connect with someone like that it is simply a blessing.  I don’t know what we would have done without Brandon on this project.  He’s helped with fight choreography.  He’s acted.  And he’s been instrumental in locking in several key locations for us that there is no way we would have gotten without him.  I am honored to have him now as both a colleague and a friend.”  – Bryan Bachar

Look out for Brandon in Fight 4 Your Life, and be a friend and like him on Facebook!

Elona Lorraine – sound recordist

Elona comes to us from Desert Warrior Entertainment, LLC.  Her partner in crime, Kenneth Ostrom, who is on the Fight 4 Your Life cast, brought her to set on a key shoot.  We ended up utilizing her sound recordist skills after she explained to us her background in such.  What a gem!

Since that shoot she’s served as sound recordist for several F4YL shoots.  In fact, she also acted in a key scene as well!  See if you can find her when Fight 4 Your Life premieres on a screen near you.

In the meantime, help support Elona by tuning into Desert Warrior Entertainment’s ongoing web series The Kent Stone Chronicles.  Fun stuff!  Thank you for the diligent work and nonstop support Elona!  one studios looks forward to future projects with you aboard.

Check out Elona on Facebook and LinkedIn, and Desert Warrior Entertainment, LLC on Facebook and YouTube!

Gary Shurley – casting / trainer / wardrobe

Gary Shurley is a man of many belts.  Founder, CEO, boxing and MMA guru, sales director, promoter and, yes, he is even a film lover and supporter!  Originally from the Bay Area, Gary’s background is Nicaraguan, Irish and Cherokee Native American.  He started in the fight game when he was 16 years old.

“I love anything to do with fighting including a good old brawl,” says Gary.

Gary has been coaching for 30 years and has acquired many nicknames, such as Coach, Doc and Ball Peen Gary.  He’s been running a boxing crew at Roseville PAL since 1995 while still maintaining his coaching obligations.  He elaborates on his thoughts on MMA and fighters,

“I love the MMA.  These guys are the best of the best.  I feel very connected to the fighters because we are a breed apart from the norm.  My dad once told me there are two kinds of people.  There are herd bound, which are the followers and the talkers, and then there’s the mustangs like us.  They don’t like rules and they take chances.  They’re not afraid to fight or bleed.”

Gary is not one to sit and relax.  He’s out hitting the streets and looking for action.  Here are a few words he has on this,

“I run a tough crew.  I love enjoying life with family and friends and meeting new people and I’m always willing to try something new.  I was also taught to never think you are better than anyone.  I don’t have much but I have my word and my integrity.”

The one studios crew has had the pleasure of experiencing Gary’s words to be truth.  He is an intense guy, sure.  And we like it!  But from his intensity things get done and so comes honesty and action.  He is a selfless type of person who is out to help others and asks little, if anything, in return.

Gary has given countless hours towards the Fight 4 Your Life cause to provide boxing training, props, costuming gear, actors and locations.  It is through Gary we were able to meet Tony “The Tiger” Lopez, who ended up being cast as Tony “The Tiger” Mercado, which is a key role in our humble project.  We can’t thank Gary, as well as his lovely wife Lorraine, enough for being committed to F4YL.  Without him on our team this project would have some troubled waters indeed!

As busy of a guy as he is, Gary has lots of avenues for contact.  But a few good one are…
